I love “Seinfeld.” As for the actual comedian Jerry Seinfeld, however it’s…complicated. In most of his activities outside his eponymous classic sitcom (1989-1998), Seinfeld bemuses more than amuses me. This ambivalence only obliquely affects my opinion of “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld’s recently-released feature-length Netflix comedy. Still, I’ve always had the disquieting sense of Seinfeld somehow always Getting Away With Something when he pulls off this suave, impeccably creased act. Seinfeld isn’t about unsettling his viewers and I’m in no way suggesting he should be.

Though one of the most potent and long-running (or at least long-stomping) forces in movies, Godzilla has never before rubbed elbows at the Academy Awards. At the Oscar luncheon, Steven Spielberg warmly greeted Yamazaki and told him he had seen “Godzilla Minus One” three times. My intent was to put a spotlight on what Godzilla represented.”In “Godzilla Minus One,” just as WWII is ending, Godzilla is growing. One of the newest and fastest-growing weapons in the fight against global warming is technology to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, known as direct air capture. Direct air capture is already a growing business, and governments around the world are adding to it, providing tax incentives and grants to help spur the industry forward. Some of the first firms to do it, such as Climeworks and Carbon Capture, use massive fans in the process. If the production discomfited me in any way it was that every 15 minutes I was waiting for someone to start singing. Wine is made by fermenting grapes or other fruit, although apple and pear wines are distinctive enough to have earned their own categories, cider and perry. But a growing number of producers are blurring the styles, blending grape wines and ciders or fermenting grapes and other fruit together, with remarkable delicious results. Some bottles are collaborations between wine and cider specialists, but most who are making these blends are natural winemakers, who tend to be more experimental and adventurous and less bound by industry and market conventions. Andy Brennan, of the superb Aaron Burr Cidery in Wurtsboro, N.Y., makes a wonderfully refreshing blend he calls Appinette by fermenting together farmed apples and traminette, a hybrid wine grape. Scar of the Sea, an excellent wine producer in San Luis Obispo, Calif., blends a different grape with Newtown Pippin apples each year — gamay in 2021 and palomino in ’22.

Since then, millions more have been needed from elected officials to complete the work. The notion that “the board has been lax in passion is the farthest thing from the truth,” Lisa Koenigsberg, an architectural historian and the board’s chair told me. The building is the city’s responsibility.” This is a curious response in a place where public-private partnerships make most of our cultural life possible. ‘Old Dads’: Bill Burr’s Bitter Comedy of Fatherhood

Bokeem Woodbine, Bill Burr and Katie Aselton Photo: NETFLIXThe shtick of stand-up legend Bill Burr is the comedy of the oppressed—the oppressed in question being middle-aged males in a foreign land, i.e. the 2020s, where they can’t say what they want, smoke where they want, win an argument with a woman or lay claim to the victimhood that seems to give everyone else the upper hand. The Burr persona is angry, ironic and, quite often, hilarious. If you find him offensive, it might be because he’s making fun of you. And you might be him.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Major U.S. pharmacy chain Rite Aid said Sunday that it has filed for bankruptcy and obtained $3.45 billion in fresh financing as it carries out a restructuring plan while coping with falling sales and opioid-related lawsuits. In 2022, Rite Aid settled for up to $30 million to resolve lawsuits alleging pharmacies contributed to an oversupply of prescription opioids. The plan will “significantly reduce the company's debt” while helping to “resolve litigation claims in an equitable manner,” Rite Aid said. The Justice Department acted after three whistleblowers who had worked at Rite Aid pharmacies filed a complaint. Earlier this month, Rite Aid notified the New York Stock Exchange that it was not in compliance with listing standards.
